Documentary Screening

We're thrilled to announce the upcoming screening of a powerful documentary that delves deep into the heart of the ongoing battle for reproductive rights. Titled "The State Will Own My Pregnant Body," this 26-minute episode, created by Danish journalist Lasse Englebrecht, sheds light on the fight for access to reproductive healthcare in states where abortion is illegal.

The documentary displays ARFA's relentless pursuit of autonomy over our bodies in the fight against the Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn ordinance. It follows us through various work sessions and meetings with city council, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the tireless efforts put forth by our dedicated team.

Central to the narrative are the city and county bans known as SCFTU (Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn). These bans, spearheaded by Mark Lee Dickson, an anti-abortion Christian nationalist, aim to strip individuals of their fundamental constitutional rights while isolating them from their support systems, plunging desperate people into a state of vulnerability and despair.

The doc paints a vivid picture of the stark realities faced by countless individuals across the nation by featuring interviews with members of the Amarillo SCFTU petition committee—a group of 11 locals attempting to pass the abortion ban—and Lauren Miller, a mother from Dallas who was forced to flee the state to receive life-saving abortion care.

We know the power of storytelling can inspire change and ignite conversations that lead to action. That's why we're honored to host a screening of "The State Will Own My Pregnant Body" this weekend. We invite you to join us as we come together to witness the resilience of those fighting for reproductive justice and to stand in solidarity with individuals whose voices must be heard.
